First Flight!

Now that’s been a really long hiatus! Anyway, I’m back and happy to report that my FSX installation is up and running like a charm except for a few issues. It took me a while to get Windows XP running (primarily issues of getting the physical disk) but so far so good.

Setup

I’m running FSX under a 2008 MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz Intel CPU, 2GB RAM and a 256MB Nvidia 8600 GT with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick. I’ve been running all graphics settings to “extremely high” levels without much trouble. The only possible concern I have is related to the heat. With all settings on high, the fans spin up to the maximum RPM, I believe. This can’t be too good for a 2 week old MBP…no?

Progress

The overall progress seems to be good inspite of my very hectic schedule. I’ve been able to complete 2 of the missions aimed at beginners (no funny jokes, pls) and have earned a number of rewards:

First Landing
Tin Wings
Aluminum Wings
Ultralight Thril Seeker

Quite flattering isn’t it, especially now that I’ve reached the ranks of being dubbed as “Tin Wings”? :)

Introduction

Hello everyone!

This will be my first and possibly shortest post for this blog. I’d like to thank you for visiting this blog and would like to say that it is still very much under construction. My main objective in the creation of this blog is to keep a journal of my experience with flight simulation and in doing so hopefully hear a bit more about yourselves.

I wouldn’t like to bore you with a story but fortunately this one is very short…I last used Microsoft’s Flight Simulator more than 12 years ago. It was released for Windows 95 as version 6.0 and I still remember quite vividly, as a youngster, when I purchased the game along with Microsoft’s Sidewinder 3D Pro, it was a match made in heaven. My interest in flight simulation began to wane after a while and I was not to revisit it until this year when by chance I happened to come across a few screenshots of FSX. Those screenshots proved to be way too enticing and I could not resist running to the store to get a copy of the latest version.

Be seeing you (nicked from The Prisoner, 1967)
